Welcome to DickBenka.com
Thank you for visiting the Re-Elect Selectman Dick Benka website. I appreciate your taking the time to learn about me as I seek re-election on Tuesday, May 3. The links tell something about my background, including my service to the Town, my career as a lawyer, and my current work volunteering three days a week as a middle school mathematics teacher and tutor.
My 27 years as a Town Meeting Member and my board and committee work on such issues as housing, zoning, and utility purchasing practices provided me with a solid background to become a Selectman in 2008. I believe such experience, along with my training in economics and law, have served the Town well.
During the past three years, I am proud to have worked on critical issues including:
- Chairing the Efficiency Initiative Committee that identified greater efficiencies in Town government and new non-tax revenue sources.
- Serving on the Commission for the Disabled and advocating for the rights of the disabled.
- Chairing the Davis Path Special District Zoning Committee that developed zoning changes balancing neighborhood protection with economic development.
- Advocating for an expanded commitment to funding health care obligations to our retirees.
- Using my legal training and experience to protect the Town’s interests in our dealings with third parties, and in revising Police and Board procedures.
- Chairing architect and engineer selection committees for Town building projects.
My last three years on the Board of Selectmen have been stimulating and fulfilling and I have been honored to work on issues – both large and small – for the benefit of those who live and work in the Town. It has been my pleasure to meet, talk to, and team up with fellow citizens who care so much about our community. I look forward to another three years and would be grateful for your support on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
